Join us in Fall 2026 for the Hippo Collection!

Your child will have a great time drumming, singing, moving to new rhythms and engaging in and exploring other instruments, unique music activities, and music games especially designed for older children. This semester, we'll explore the Hippo Rhythm with drumming patterns based on rhythms used in Gahu, the popular, recreational dance of the Ewe people of Ghana. We'll learn 20 songs, including “Gahu Ee” a call-and-response song from the Ewe people of Ghana, Togo, and Benin in Western Africa and the traditional Andean folksong, “La vicuñita,” often heard in Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina. The "Hip Hop Hippo" rap will let children break out their hip-hop dance moves!

• You must be at least 4 years old to attend the Rhythm Kids^® class.
• 45-minute class. ONCE a week. 9 weeks total.
• Tuition: Tuition includes the material set (songbook, CD, and digital MP3).
  • 1st child: $289
  • 1st sibling: $239
  • 2nd sibling: $180

• Mixed-level class: Students must be at least 4 years old.
  • If the child is under 6 years old, parents need to be in the class and may participate together if your child needs assistance.
  • For children aged 6 and older, parents can decide whether to stay in the class with their child.    

To join the Rhythm Kids^®, students are encouraged to bring their own Djembe drum. We will provide it in class, but it's more valuable if you have one and can practice at home.

ABOUT Rhythm Kids^® 

Big kids know what they like. Telling silly stories. Playing games. Being in charge. Designed specifically for pre-K and early elementary students, our active Rhythm Kids^® classes for big kids tap into how children this age are wired to learn, with music games, animal rhythm stories, and lots of stomping, flying, and climbing fun, plus the added bonus of learning the Djembe drum!  Rhythm Kids^® is just the thing to encourage your children to start making music with their friends. By the end of the semester, they’ll be proud to show off what they’ve learned: to you, their friends and teachers, and—let’s face it—for some kids, every person they meet!  Both in-person and online classes meet for 45 minutes weekly, for a nine-week session. Songbook, CD, and digital downloads included in tuition.

Rhythm Kids^® guides children 4y-8y toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative, as they:

• make up their own drumming patterns
• Invent new ways to play rhythm instruments (shakers, sticks, etc.)
• Create movement ideas for songs
• even take a drum solo!

Your child will:

• Explore the world of rhythm through movement, instrument play, and song
• Develop basic rhythm skills, like keeping beat, improvising, ensemble play, and soloing
• Learn to create, cooperate, and express themselves musically
